There was a time when every female was buying those glossy, liquid lipsticks and lip glosses. I was one of those people too. Truth be told, I hated them but since they were in fashion, I had to stay ‘cool’, didn’t I? Well, thank god that’s over! Now, matte lipsticks and lip products have replaced those sticky, shimmery cosmetics and I, for one, am glad they did.
Matte lipsticks are humid-proof, long lasting and almost every product is super pigmented. Mind you, I am talking about the actual lipsticks right now. The recent addition to the matte family – the liquid matte lipstick – has slightly different properties. These lipsticks give the real matte touch but they can get sticky and irritating in more humid conditions. But of course, that varies from product to product.
So how do you choose which matte lipstick you’re getting on your next shopping spree? Well, the answer to that isn’t that simple since not all makeup products release their core ingredients for us to scientifically assess them. So to pick out the best in the market, you’ll have to go through trial and error.
Not up for that exhausting long and expensive process? You’re at the right place (or page!). In this article, we’ll look at some of the best lipstick products of 2017 that are definitely worth the money.
High-End Matte Lipsticks (US $20+)
When it comes to makeup, lipsticks to be more precise, anything above the twenty dollar bill is considered high end. Sure, it might not seem much but when you’re buying an item with an expiration date of only a few months, that’s pretty high-end.
KYLIE Lip Kit [US $24]
Personally, I didn’t want to start off with this one but you have to give credit where it’s due. The youngest Kardashian-Jenner sister just last year released her take on cosmetics – the Kylie cosmetics. When the lip kit came out, it made headlines all across the cosmetics industry. While it received a good amount of backlash and likened it to a copycat of the ColorPop products, there is no denying that the Kylie Lip Kit provides some of the finest quality liquid matte lipstick. On a recent Buzzfeed comparison video between the Kylie Lip Kit and Colour Pop lipsticks, the clear winner was the Kylie Cosmetics and for good reason. The Lip Kit comes in a wide range of colors with catchy names like ‘Literally’, ‘Candy X’, ‘True Brown’ etc with each costing US $24. These liquid matte lipsticks are definitely worth considering if your budget lets you.
Rouge Dior Matte Lipstick [US $35]
Dior has a well-established name in the cosmetics department with excellent quality makeup products. The only major drawback is that because the brand is so renowned, the price tags on their cosmetic products are quite overwhelming.
The Rouge Dior Matte Lipstick, unlike the Kylie Lip Kit, is an actual lipstick and not liquid by form. They come in a beautiful array of colors that are deeply pigmented and the textures are just amazing. One common problem to most matte lipsticks is that they can tend to look extremely dry on the lips. While the Dior Extreme Matte collection was pretty dry, the Rouge collection is a lot more moisturizing.
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick [US $ 24]
This is another liquid matte lipstick that’s been loved by beauty gurus worldwide. Honestly, I never liked the Stila liquid lip glosses, but their Stay All Day matte collection is definitely stepping things up. These liquid matte lipsticks come in a nice range of colors for you to buy. Their ‘Fiery’ lipstick, especially, is a personal favorite and gives the classic, romantic red lips look. These liquid lipsticks don’t dry out your lips and are long lasting. However, they don’t exactly have the best fragrance and the lipstick tends to flake off when you’re having a meal.
Mid-Range Matte Lipsticks (US $10 – $19)
If you’re looking for something more affordable, but still with a good brand name because come on, we’re all brand conscious anyway, these lipsticks might just be what you’re looking for.
MAC Matte Lipstick [US $17]
The best ones out of the Mac Matte Lipstick collection are the Ruby Woo and Kinda Sexy. These too lipsticks have been selling like crazy and we don’t see that stopping anytime soon. The Mac lipsticks are moist and don’t dry out your lips, plus they are super pigmented and have a long-lasting property. The colors are beautiful with a soft satin touch and a matte finish. If you’re someone who enjoys a little shimmer but not the whole gloss, then this matte collection by MAC might just do it for you!
Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipsticks [US $11]
Urban Decay has been making great contributions to the cosmetics industry and their Matte Revolution Lipsticks are no less. While some might argue their consistency is too creamy to be called matte, I believe it’s a good thing they moisturize the lips since they aren’t so dry. The colors come in a nice range, with shades varying from baby pink to dark brown. It’s a good bargain at only $11 and definitely worth considering.
Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick [US $17]
Haven’t heard of Ofra cosmetics? Well, it’s about time you do! The Ofra Long Lasting matte liquid lipstick collection is a great purchase if you’re into more darker, deeply pigmented shades. These lipsticks don’t dry your lips out and keep your lips hydrated owing to the antioxidants and Vitamin E components inside. The colors are amazing but if you’re a more neon, bright as the sun kind of person, you might not find the shade of your choice with Ofra.
Drug-Store Matte Lipsticks (US $1 – $9)
Oh, don’t we all love everything to be cheap and affordable but still have an excellent, branded quality? I know I do. Here are some of the best drug-store matte lipsticks that will go easy on your pocket.
ColorPop Ultra Matte [US $6]
Ever since Kylie Cosmetics saw its fame and fortune, ColorPop saw some of its own perhaps because of the striking similarities between the two. I’ve been using ColorPop for a while now and although I absolutely adore the shades, the lipsticks do tend to make my lips feel drier as time passes. The lipsticks are long lasting and for only six dollars are a good buy.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream [US $6]
This is another liquid matte lipstick that is a great drug-store product. The shades come in a wide range and they are pretty moisturizing. A slight drawback is that they aren’t as long lasting as other matte cosmetics and tend to flake off with time. Also, the color isn’t super pigmented and several coats have to be applied to achieve the desired shade.
